After the reconstruction there will appear road traffic and a cycle path on Bolshoy Petrovskiy Bridge

There has begun a reconstruction of Bolshoy Petrovskiy Bridge across Malaya Nevka. Instead of the wooden foot bridge there will appear a new one designed for foot and road traffic. This was mentioned in "Mostostroy №6", Pc press service.
From December, 22, 2009 traffic on the bridge is closed. The reconstruction will continue up to September, 2010.
Now workers are delauncing the existing construction, organizing a building site and constructing bored piles for the future bridge pillars. During rearrangement of the bridge specialists will use steel constructions of the temporary double - the Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge.
Within the framework of Bolshoy Petrovskiy Bridge reconstruction it is supposed to:
- completely delaunch the existing wooden foot bridge;
- construct ferroconcrete piers;
- assemble steel constructions of the framework;
- reinforce of framework constructions;
- install of bridge road;
- reconstruct the embankments of Malaya Nevka adjoining abutment piers;
- granitic facing of abutment piers and retaining walls.
The works on reconstruction of the bridge are included in the list of measures to develop transport infrastructure of Krestovskiy Island after opening of the stadium of "Zenit" football club.
Bolshoy Petrovskiy Bridge used to be a foot-bridge, a drawbridge, 24-spanned, with the spans 13 metres long. There used to be road traffic on the bridge but it was stopped because of accident condition of the constructions.
There will be a cycle path and traffic pathways (two in each direction) on the reconstructed bridge. To admit pedestrians there supposed to be two pavements 1,5 meters wide on both sides of the bridge.
